8th Grade Civics Field Trip
Destination: Michigan Ground Game
Out of the Classroom, Into the Turf
We’ve run the numbers on win rates and contact goals in our Political Science simulator, but elections aren't won on a whiteboard. They are won on the porches and sidewalks of key battleground states.
That's why our next lesson is a Field Trip to Michigan. Michigan is a critical swing state, meaning every single conversation and every single door knocked has a massive mathematical impact on the national outcome. We are packing the vans and heading across the lake to learn how the ground game actually works in real life.
What You Will Learn
You don't need any prior experience to come on this trip. The local organizers will teach us the fine art of political canvassing. You'll learn how to:
- Read a "Turf": Navigate a map of targeted houses using mobile canvassing apps.
- Deliver the Script: Break the ice with voters, listen to their concerns, and transition into your candidate's message.
- Record the Data: Log responses accurately so the campaign's data scientists can adjust their models for Election Day.
Plus, it's a great excuse to grab some good food, get your steps in, and actually make a difference instead of just reading about it.
